Songs and Collaborations

Welcome!

Below are some recent demos of songs I’ve written or co-written over the years. A few began as old tapes made with friends and collaborators, which I’ve now digitized and added to. Others are fresh takes on earlier ideas.
This space is really just me having some fun—revisiting old songs, experimenting, and reconnecting with friends, including those who are no longer with us. To Jody and Holmes, it's been a pleasure and honor hearing and working with you again. To the rest of you, let's make some more music together!

Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

Don't Give Up (The Ghost)

(Street)

(c) 2005 Street Monkey Music (BMI)

True story, based on a AP news wire by Ben Fox from 2005. Peter Case had us read and write about it as an assignment in his Songwriter's Workshop II, which I took that year. This was my take on that article. Sadly, even more resonant today than it was then.

Save Me

(Street/Runyan)

(c) 2006 Street Monkey Music (BMI)/?

Squeaky (Bill Runyan) brought this one in almost fully formed, I threw in some lyrics and we demoed the song long ago on 4-track. I took his acoustic guitars and backing vocal from that recording and built the rest up around those. Thanks to Steve Toland for providing additional backing vocals as well!

Orange

(Street/Ryan)

(c) 2002 Street Monkey Music (BMI)/MeatPie Music (BMI)

Wrote this one with Kelley Ryan (of astroPuppees fame). Her recording can be found on her brilliant 'little chich tsunami' LP (Manatee Records). This is my humble attempt at 'having a go of it'!

In A Heartbeat (feat. Kelley Ryan)

(Street/Ryan)

(c) 2000 Street Monkey Music (BMI)/MeatPie Music (BMI)

An earlier Kelley Ryan co-write. I took her vocal from our original 4-track cassette demo and tried to update it a little.

Everything

(Street)

(c) 2015 Street Monkey Music (BMI)

'Love rules the court, the camp, the grove,/And men below, and saints above;/For love is heaven, and heaven is love.'
- Sir Walter Scott

Why Don't We (feat. John McCloy)

(McCloy/Street)

(c) 2000 the Real McCloy /Street Monkey Music (BMI)

Had the pleasure of writing this one a few years back with the incredibly talented John McCloy. I recently found an old cassette tape he gave me after our writing session of just his acoustic guitar and vocals. I've now added my two cents in here as well.

Again

(Street/Westover)

(c) 2004 Street Monkey Music (BMI)/Aseekobobio (BMI)

One of the songs I wrote with the incomparable Jody Lynn Westover. She recorded these vocals to a scratch guitar track on a cassette tape many years ago, and I've now added a bit of instrumentation to it. You are sorely missed, Jody Lynn. <3

Please Come Home (feat. Kelley Ryan)

(Street/Ryan)

(c) 1998 Street Monkey Music (BMI)/Meatpie Music (BMI)

Another Kelley Ryan co-write. Sort of a love letter to me Mum, who always wished I would. This is Kelley's vocal from our original song demo, I've redone the rest.

Over You

(Street)

(c) 2005 Street Monkey Music (BMI)

A song about loss, and maybe pushing away the pain of it all. Thanks again to Steve Toland for adding in his backing vocals to this one as well, for that special 'Toland Touch'!

Monkeys Run

(Street/Runyan)

(c) 1995 Street Monkey Music (BMI)/?

Bill (Squeaky) wrote the music, and I threw in the words. This recording originated as a Speedy, Squeaky and Holmes live to 4-track. I've tried to clean it up a bit and added some parts. The line about DJT came about after watching a particularly grotesque episode of 'Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous' (yes, the song is THAT old!).

Spud

(Street)

(c) 1995 Street Monkey Music (BMI)

"This is a true story...about a couple a pets named Spud." Found an old 4-track of Speedy, Squeaky and Holmes (RIP, Rob) doing this one, so I tried to give it some new life (wish I could've done the same for the Spuds)!

Bad Combination

(Street/Ryan)

(c) 1998 Street Monkey Music (BMI)/Meatpie Music (BMI)

Yet another Kelley Ryan co-write. This started as a 2-track cassette demo after the writing session, but before we'd pulled all the lyrics together. I was playing the 'StrumStick' with Kelley on guitar. I've taken that cassette and added some new bits and pieces, and some new lyrics, to that demo.

Not About You

(Street)

(c) 2001 Street Monkey Music (BMI)

Well, it's not you know.
